Co-Parenting Agreements

Many clinics require completion of a co-parenting agreement before unmarried couples or platonic co-parents commence assisted reproductive procedures.  The agreement covers topics such as assumption of parentage, the last name of the child, cost-sharing, and what happens if there is a separation.

Key considerations:

  1. Who will claim the child as a dependent for tax purposes?

  2. Who will add the child to their medical insurance?

  3. Will there be equal cost-sharing for the child's education, medical expenses, etc.?

  4. What resources do the co-parents have to handle disagreements or issues that may arise?
